
Objective of the Training Plan
The 407 visa is intended to provide occupational training to visa holders that improves their skills and helps them gain competencies aligned with Australian industry standards. The training plan must:
- Identify the nominee’s existing skills and competencies
- Highlight specific skills gaps based on ANZSCO duties
- Provide a clear training roadmap with milestones and assessments
- Ensure training is practical, hands-on, and employer-supervised

Key Components of a 407 Training Plan
Component | Description |
Training Host | The business providing the structured training program |
Trainee Details | Full name, qualifications, experience, and current skill set |
Nominated Occupation | The ANZSCO code and title for the occupation under which the training is given |
Training Duration | Typically 12–24 months |
Training Location | Must be clearly stated or explained (e.g., in-home, multiple sites, head office) |
Skills Gap Analysis
This section compares the nominee’s current skills with the tasks outlined in the relevant ANZSCO occupation description. For each ANZSCO duty:
- Tick “No Gap” if the skill is already demonstrated through experience or education
- Tick “Gap Exists” if additional training is needed
Include a summary paragraph explaining the rationale behind identified gaps (e.g., lack of hands-on experience, limited exposure to specific environments, etc.)

Training Structure
Organise the training into 3–5 thematic clusters, each focused on addressing specific skill gaps. For example:
Cluster 1: Communication & Ethics
Focus: Legal compliance, communication, client engagement
Units:
- Use communication to build relationships
- Apply legal and ethical standards
- Assess client needs
Cluster 2: Core Technical/Occupational Tasks
Focus: Practical skills required for the occupation
Units:
- Perform key job duties (e.g., mechanical diagnostics, food prep, client therapy)
- Apply WHS practices
- Use industry tools or software
Cluster 3: Specialised Skills or Sector-Specific Gaps
Focus: High-demand niche or advanced competency (e.g., neonatal care, digital marketing)
Units:
- Provide training/advice
- Support vulnerable clients
- Modify techniques to meet special needs


Trainer Qualifications
Trainers must be appropriately qualified and experienced in the nominated occupation. Ideal trainer credentials include:
- AQF qualification (Cert IV or higher) in the field
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience
- Training/mentoring experience preferred
- Must be an employee or close associate of the sponsor business
